How a Small Business in Bloomfield, NJ is Capitalizing on SEO Marketing to Generate New Customers via Website Traffic

In my last post I advised you all about a concept I was testing. Refer to the previous post and then begin here ---> Google just indexed my Lynnes Infiniti Web page, which promotes Pat Thai Restaurant to people using search engines to locate the Lynnes Infiniti Web site (Lynnes Infiniti Auto Dealership is located across the street from Pat Thai Restaurant). That means you can now find information about Pat Thai Restaurant when you search for Lynnes Infiniti in Google - the page I created for the restaurant is currently # 2 for a Google search on keyword phrase lynnes infiniti ...pretty good right? I accomplished what I set out to do.

Why am I using the above method and at least one other mentioned in this blog? Simple, Pat Thai Restaurant's customers are for the most part local - within a two town radius - a pocket of small towns located in Essex County, NJ. What I did so far has given her a dominant presence in major search engines when thai food, or thai restaurant is searched using a town local to her in the search phrase. The challenge here is to pull traffic for searches relating to something in Pat Thai's general vicinity because there are only so many searches done per month for Thai restaurants or Thai food in her area - Pat already gets all of that traffic.

I don't do cookie-cutter marketing. Every business' situation is unique and may require a unique marketing strategy, and that strategy usually evolves over time.

Put Your Business On Steroids

Here's a little background information on how I learned search engine optimization ( SEO ): Back in 1997 I began working for a company that sold custom voicemail services. They would program your voicemail system according to your specifications. Most of our top clients were large MLM organizations, and for the most part they used these voicemail systems to handle incoming telephone inquiries about their products or MLM business opportunity. We were a small group, but the company had a nice revenue stream for it's size. When I began working there we were doing around $40,000 per month in gross sales, and at the time the company was purchased by a competitor in 2002 we were doing $150,000 per month in gross sales.

So what happened in four and a half years that increased our sales from $40,000 to $150,000 per month? Search engine optimization - that's what happened.

I got friendly with a client of ours that had a phone sex business. We programmed the automated portions for his numerous phone sex lines. This man also had over 80 porn site pages that generated a substantial portion of his income.

One day this client and I were chatting about generating traffic using search engines. He gave me a general overview about what he does and referred me to sources where I could find information about search engine optimization - I don't even think it was called search engine optimization back in 1998. Since that day I have been reading, studying, testing, testing, and testing any information I can find about the subject.

The first thing I set out to do after my research (much to the protest of out web designer/developers) was optimize my employer's website. My decision to push the principals to allow me to optimize and effectively market our website and subsequent websites eventually led (after the sale of the company) to the owner of our company buying a Carver yacht among some other luxurious amenities.

The point I want to stress is that Internet marketing is a building process. Just as you are building your business over time, you also have to build a solid Internet presence over time as well. This does not mean that favorable results come slowly. I can easily have your Web site generating targeted traffic via search engine optimization in as little as two to three weeks. Aside from SEO there is an infinite number of methods and variations for generating even more traffic to your Web site.

If you offer a good product or service at a fair price, and you treat your current and potential customers well, then let me introduce you to an advertising medium where people are specifically looking for the exact thing you offer. The trick is to get what you offer in front of them.

Call me so I can show you how I can help you make your website generate new visitors, telephone and email inquiries, and more SALES! The initial consultation won't cost you a dime.

Siphoning Traffic From Unrelated Local Search

I was waiting to get a haircut at A'Ginell in Bloomfield, NJ today when I quickly snapped out of my spectrum-of-intermingling-hair-product-aromas induced dementia by an idea that came from somewhere other than my overactive imagination.

You'll need to read the last post to get a better grasp on what I am about to share with you. If you care not to I'll quickly brief you on the logistics.

My client, Pat Thai Restaurant, is located directly across the street from Lynnes Infiniti car dealership. I did some quick keyword research and learned that the keyword phrase "lynnes infiniti" is seeing a decent amount of search engine action for a local car dealer.

As I was waiting there to get my locks trimmed I whipped open my laptop and hand-coded (yes! hand-coded) a simple loosely-optimized door page. I neglected to promptly install Macromedia DreamWeaver on this latest machine so I was forced to get back to my roots. I'll dress it up later with DW. When this web page hits top ten on Google for keyword phrase "lynnes infiniti" it will be another traffic source for my client Pat Thai Restaurant, bringing in more customers for months, perhaps years to come. The concept is fairly simple, and here's the finished product: Lynnes Infiniti.

Dominating Google Local Search Results

For the last couple of months I have been tweaking a simple but highly optimized website I created for a friend. Let me first give you a little background information. My friend, Pat, owns Pat Thai Restaurant located in Bloomfield, NJ 07003. A cozy, romantic, authentic Thai food restaurant that seats about sixteen people. The food is fabulous, the staff is friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied in every way. There is only one other Thai restaurant in Bloomfield. Montclair, NJ 07042 is a neighboring town, which borders Bloomfield to the West. It's definitely one of the more affluent towns in Essex County, NJ, culturally and racially diverse and artsy. Montclair currently has three well-established Thai restaurants, none of which have a website. Pat is currently getting traffic intended for her competitors because the competing restaurants are mentioned on one of her web pages.

I created a simple two-page site and later added a Montclair NJ restaurants review page. I wrote the review, but hey, I was a regular customer of Pat's long before I built her site. Her three web pages dominate the search engine rankings in Google for all local restaurant searches that include the keyword phrase thai and any of the local towns I targeted. Needless to say, Pat is getting targeted traffic to her website, and a percentage of those site visitors have become new customers.

In fact, I did such a good job optimizing Pat's site for Google she currently ranks # 6 for the keyword phrase thai food restaurant...that's # 6 of 1,250,000 web pages that resulted in a search for thai food restaurant. This does not do her much good because the search is not targeted for her specific area, but it sure is a feather in my cap.

Search result pages for keyword phrase:

*Positions will fluctuate up and down periodically. This is normal and expected.

thai food montclair - top 3 positions

9/28/04 Note: This page currently appears as a link only in the Googles index (no title and description). It has also recenly dropped off the top 10 results after the last time it was spidered. I have contacted Google, and the situation will be rectified shortly. However, the page currently appears in the #1 postion in MSN and Yahoo for keyword search montclair nj restaurants.
